What is a brand purpose and why does it matter?

Once of the best parts of my job, is helping my clients define their brand and its purpose.

Having a purpose which goes beyond just making profit can help you be a powerful brand and business that attracts your customers to you – like a magnet.

What do I mean by purpose? This is exactly how it sounds – the purpose of why your business exists and what it’s there for, what problem is it to solving?

Having a brand purpose needs to be the foundation of your business which can be created as simply by a set of brand values (words). These are then embedded within your DNA. So, in other words runs through everything your business does such as the word Blackpool runs through a stick of rock.

The truth is customers do care about this and will impact their decision to buy from you. It also helps provide crystal clear clarity around what to expect from investing in you. So many businesses I work with fail to think about something as simple as this. The amount of social media pages I assess with inconsistency in posts and that take me at least 10 minutes to work out what business is offering me!?

Every time you speak to your customers, write a post on social media, when writing any content, it should echo your brand values and purpose so that your customers do not lose site of what your business is about. It basically acts as a compass for your content to ensure that what you are writing is in line with your business.

Authenticity is key – so it should never be copied from somewhere else it needs to be a true representation of your business.

So, what is your business purpose? What are your key brand values? Are they clear?
